May Meeting This month’s meeting will be at North Austin Medical Center Auditorium on the 2nd floor, Tuesday, May 13, 2008. (Click here for MapQuest Directions) The meeting will begin at 11:45am preceded by lunch from approximately 11:15-11:45am. You can RSVP onlne. Visitors are welcome for a $5.00 charge which includes lunch and the CEUs. Our topic this month is “Management and Control of Diabetes” presented by Terri Knox R.N., C.D.E..Terri is the coordinator of Diabetes Education at South Austin Hospital. She is a certified diabetes educator with 22 years of experience in diabetes education including instruction on all aspects of diabetes management for outpatients, inpatients, health care professionals and community groups. She coordinates South Austin Hospital’s outpatient diabetes self-management training program which has been recognized by the American Diabetes Association for 17 years. This program will address current diabetes terminology, prevalence of diabetes in the US and Texas, interventions for prevention of diabetes, and current management strategies including comprehensive diabetes education for patients focusing on medication, nutrition, blood glucose monitoring and behavior change. National Nurses Week is May 6-12. Did you know that in 1982 President Ronald Reagan proclaimed May 6th as Nurses Day but this was later extended to a weeklong celebration to include May 12th. So remember your favorite nurse(s) this week. Humana Military HealthCare Services Conference May 21 - 22 “Challenges Facing the Wounded Warrior and Their Families Today” Humana Military HealthCare Services is conducting a case management conference in San Antonio on May 21-22. The title of the conference is “Challenges Facing the Wounded Warrior and Their Families Today.” The goal of the conference is to increase civilian providers awareness regarding signature injuries resulting from the War on Terror, how they are caused, the associated medical/behavioral health challenges to the wounded warrior and family members, and emerging treatments to help reintegrate wounded warriors back into society. Our target audience will include primary care physicians, nurses and case managers. The conference is free and is accredited for 7.5 nursing CEUs and accreditation for 7.5 certified case management CEU’s and physician CMEs is pending.
